Cy Smith, Founder & CEO
Cy is an experienced entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
Prior to launching AirSage in 2000, Cy was Founder, President and CEO of Advance Technology Corporation (ATC), a pioneer and leader in GIS and GPS‐based solutions for wireless and wireline telecommunications companies. He began his career with BellSouth Corporation, holding positions in network engineering, quality assurance and management.
A graduate of The Georgia Institute of Technology, Cy earned a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering. He has been recognized as one of Georgia Tech’s “Outstanding Young Engineers” by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association and has received awards from the American Electronics Association for leadership and innovation in technology.
Greg Swayne, Chairman
Greg has been AirSage’s Chairman for several years. Before that he had a successful stint as Chairman and CEO of HSWI for which he was named the number 5 top CEO among Georgia public companies in 2011 in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s book of lists. While at HSWI Greg brought the popular US site Howstuffworks.com to both China and Brazil and grew the sites from 0 to over 35million page views in less than 2 years from launching in 2008.
Beginning in 2010 HSWI turned its focus back to the US Health Market by becoming an equity owner and development partner for Sharecare, a highly searchable social Q&A healthcare platform organizing and answering the questions of health, created by Jeff Arnold the founder or WebMD, and Dr. Mehmet Oz whose popular syndicated TV show reaches millions of consumers daily, in partnership with Harpo Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Discovery Communications. Greg has had numerous successful exits with companies he has led including ADAM Software which he co-founded and took public in 1995 and Howstuffworks.com which he ran as the CEO from 2001 to 2007 when it was sold to Discovery Communications for one of the year’s top exits by an internet media company.
Rainer W. Fröhlich, Director
Rainer Fröhlich is a partner at and founder of Constellation, a Zurich based Venture Capital Firm. He started his career as consultant with McKinsey & Co in Switzerland, where he led various strategic and operational studies. He left McKinsey to join the CEO of AEG-Daimler Benz to lead a highly regarded and later implemented strategic study about electronic application in future products from Mercedes Benz. Furthermore, he set up the corporate development to assist AEG s restructuring process.
Among others, he was in charge of R&D of AEG-Olympia with direct responsibility for 900 employees and the R&D and Sales department of AEG Mobile Communication GmbH the mobile solutions arm of the Daimler Benz group. In this capacity, he was overall responsible for the GSM Project with Nokia and Alcatel and for the restructuring, reorientation and successful sale of this company to a French technology and media group. He later was hired by the CEO and later Chairman of the Bertelsmann Media Group as deputy head of Corporate Development before founding and building Constellation.
Today, Rainer emphasizes Leverage Buy Outs and Buy and Builds in the Service Industries, and the optimization of operational processes as well as the area of marketing/sales performance improvement. He holds a degree in Physics from ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich and has significant research experience. He also holds international patents in mobile communication applications.
Günter H Sieber, Director
Günter H Sieber is an industry partner and investor in Constellation. He has a wide international experience as an executive in England, Belgium, Italy , Germany and USA. In 1987 Günter was appointed to the Executive Board of Continental AG, Hannover Germany - the second largest automotive group with worldwide operations. Günter transitioned the company via the US$650 Million acquisition of General Tire from Gen Corp and guided Continental through Pirelli’s multibillion unsuccessful hostile takeover attempt. His most recent position was President and CEO of Denzel AG , Vienna Austria, active in the automotive, finance and real estate business in Central and Eastern Europe.
For years Günter has been a seasoned independent investor in various sectors. He holds a degree in Automotive Engineering and studied Economics at the University in Graz/Austria.
Andres Wydler, Director
Andres is a clean tech executive and entrepreneur with a proven track record of two decades in corporate and business development, predominantly with growth stage technology firms. He currently resides in San Francisco, CA and serves as CFO and board member of Lumastream, Inc, an intelligent lighting solutions company.
A co-founder of smart grid firm BPL Global that grew from zero to 120 people, he set up and managed all commercial activities and managed investor relations. Over the last decade, he raised over $35M in equity and debt financing from first tier VCs, investment banks, strategic investors, and economic development partners. He secured government funds to augment private capital and completed acquisitions in the US, Europe, and Latin America valued at $45M. A member of the Constellation group out of Switzerland, he co-founded an angel group that successfully invested in and exited tech firms with cross-border strategies.
Andres earned an MBA from Stanford and a law degree from the University of Zurich. He developed and lectured real-world focused courses at Stanford University on Clean Tech Entrepreneurship. Topics include evaluating and financing superior business opportunities, building effective executive teams, developing strategic partnerships, and preparing for optimal exits. Andres is very familiar with the latest “best practices” in Silicon Valley for privately held companies.
